Once a home for the Sisters of Good Shepherd, surrounded by the Collingwood Children’s Farm and Yarra Bend Park, the Abbotsford Convent with its 11 magnificient buildings is an extraordinary place and is becoming an important art, educational and cultural precint in Melbourne.
..Once upon a time...seven years ago, Domenico Raco with his team established from inception the Convent Bakery, now a renowned, reputable and wisely known institution within the Abbotsford Convent precint.
Nesteled witihin the wall of the Convent Annexe or Kitchen wing are two magnificient wood fired mansory ovens built in 1901. Amazingly it is in these ovens that the Convent Bakery, through the hands of Artisan Bakers produces a unique variety of old-fashioned wood fired bread.
"Hi there, I would like to say thank you to the Baker and the staff for just a fantastic day of baking. It was informative, he explained everything to us in detail and nothing was of any trouble for him. He has a lovely sense of humour which put a lot of fun into our class……. so thanks to the baker. The course itself, was great value for money. Customer service when I arrived was great too, a nice hot coffee before we got started. The variety of breads and scrolls were more than any of us expected to bake. Fantastic day out and I will be recommending it to my friends. Best wishes, Maureen Payne" 2015
